STATE MANDATED SCREENINGS
Physicals, Vision, Hearing and Spinal

Throughout a child's school career, the Massachusetts State Department of Public Health, School Health Unit, requires certain screenings to be completed by the School Nurse. The mandated screenings are listed below:

Vision and Hearing is tested in grades K-6, and grade 8 &10.

Spinal or Postural Screening is completed in grades 5-9. This screening for scoliosis is done yearly during these grades when the greatest growth spurts occur. If you choose not to have the screening performed by the School Nurse, the screening MUST be documented on the physical examination done be the child's Physician or Nurse Practitioner.

Physical Exams and BMI Screening are required in grades K, 1, 4, 7, & 10.
